It’s been two years since Toyota first launched the widely acclaimed and their current leading sports coupe. While there’s a new, more extensive range of models on offer, Toyota are quick to remind buyers that the fundamental performance and handling qualities that define the coupe remain intact: this is still a car that is all about the pure pleasure of driving.

To make the GT86 accessible to an even wider audience, Toyota has created a new UK model range, with a lower entry price and more choice.

There are now a total of four GT86 models offered in the UK. Alongside the Primo and the regular GT86, there’s a newly added GT86 Aero and limited edition GT86 Giallo.

So what has changed about the GT86?
To be honest, not a lot! The main changes are equipment and trim options. A tyre pressure monitoring is now standard throughout the range, as well as a shark-fin aerial and a faux carbon fibre dashboard.

The new entry model the ‘Primo’s’ official on the road price is £22.995, which is a saving of £2,115 on the earlier editions of the GT86. Toyota also say that early bird customers will be offered an additional saving of £500, which would put the GT86 at the same price as the Subaru BRZ.

The classic GT86 remains at the heart of the range and now includes the option of an automatic transmission.

The new GT86 Aero introduces a striking body kit, with large rear spoiler and front, side and rear skirts. The impactful look is topped off with a set of 18-inch OZ Ultraleggera alloy wheels with an anthracite grey finish.

These core models are also joined by a new special edition GT86 Giallo, that includes additional styling – most notably a loud yellow paint job. Just 86 examples are available for UK customers, each one individually numbered.
