Mota’s Top picks from 2015 Detroit Auto Show

The 2015 Detroit Auto Show played host to the biggest names in the car industry yet again, as they took to the stage to unveil their new vehicles, concepts, and ideas for the future of the motor industry.

Here are Mota’s top picks from the show.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

First up is one of the more exciting convertibles to be unveiled at Detroit this year – the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider.
Alfa say the chopped top edition retains the aerodynamics and power of its hard top sibling, but of course with the Spider you now have the freedom to have the wind blow through your hair while you drive.

The light weight Italian sports car is capable of producing 237bhp from its small but punchy 1.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, combined with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox means the 4C will reach a zero to sixty time in just 4.1 seconds.
The 4C Spider is expected to arrive for the summer and will be priced at around £52,000.

Infiniti Q60 Concept

Infiniti Q60 Concept

Next up is Infiniti who created quite the stir at Detroit this year with a striking new concept coupe. Although the Q60 is a Concept car, they say we can expect to see a similar production ready 2+2 coupe in 2016.

Underneath its sleek exterior lies a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, part of a new range of smaller engines from the luxury car maker. The Q60 certainly looks impressive but will it be enough to challenge the likes of BMW’s M4 or the Lexus RC F.

Lexus GS F

LEXUS GSF
LEXUS GSF

Last week Lexus released details of their new GS F performance saloon ahead of its unveiling at Detroit. Lying beneath its bonnet is the same 5.0-litre V8 that’s in the RC F Coupe – capable of producing 470bhp. Controlling the power will be an eight-speed automatic gearbox and will come with a Torsen limited-slip differential as standard.

Other similarities can be seen between the GS F and RC F in terms of styling, however the performance orientated executive car has a much more dramatic front end with a larger grille and features new LED headlights.
The GS F is set to rival the likes of the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG; it will go on sale later in 2015 and will cost roughly £80,000.

There was a lot of the hype and anticipation from Supercar fans around the world about the unveiling of the production ready Honda NSX, though Ford stole some of their lime light with the unveiling of an incredible new supercar: the Ford GT.

Featuring a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 592bhp, the new GT will be constructed from carbon-fibre and aluminium and will be priced at around £250,000.  Expect it to appear on our roads in 2016.

2016 Honda NSX

It has been 25 years since the original NSX was unveiled and a decade since the last NSX was produced, making the Honda NSX one of the most anticipated cars at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
We reported last month how the demand for the Japanese Supercar is so great Honda had to close the order book for presales of the car.

The 2015 NSX features a twin-turbo V6 engine, that’s coupled to a wet twin-clutch seven-speed transmission paired with an electric motor making it a hybrid. Just like the Nissan GTR, the NSX will be as powerful as many leading Supercars, however it will cost less than half of the asking price of most of its competitors.
