First off I’d just like to say I’ve been really busy with work lately so apologies for only getting around to updating this now.
I just wanted to share some pictures that I took from a car run I participated in at the end of May with the Northern Retro crew.
The run was held in memory of the late John B. Donnelly, who sadly passed away after a road traffic accident on Christmas Eve 2013.
Although I didn’t know John personally, he was a member of the Northern Retros crew and from what I read about him, a very nice man who happened to be a true car enthusiast, so it was only fitting that a run was organised in his memory.
The route that was planned by the Northern Retro team began at Ballycastle. Those who met up there headed along the north coast to join up with others at Portrush, before heading for the ferry at Magilligan, which would take the gang across the sparkling sea at Lough Foyle over to the shores of Greencastle, where myself and some others were waiting. After rounding everyone up at Greencastle, we took to the roads of Donegal (one of Johns favourite places) and headed to our final destination at Malin Head (the most northern point in Ireland) for “The world famous Northern Retro BBQ”.
Thankfully the gods graced us with great weather, which was made even better by the fantastic twisty roads of County Donegal, the beautiful scenery on offer and some good old fashioned car talk with fellow petrol heads, all gathered around a smokey BBQ.
I had a brilliant day out with the guys and gals from the Northern Retro team and would just like to thank everyone involved with organising the run, which was a great way to remember a car enthusiast whilst also raising money for charity.
And to anyone that has never never been to this part of the country before, I would highly recommend it!
More pics from the run can be found here…
Thanks padraig for the kind words it’s very humbling know that we (car guys) can have an impact on everyone that joins us or simply walks over to us when we meet up
