The chance to own an extremely rare 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Competizione has come up for one lucky collector as the car is set to be auctioned off at Bonhams Scottsdale Auction on Thursday 15th January 2015.
Held at the luxurious Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, the Bonhams Scottsdale Auction has quickly become a major highlight on the global vintage car auction calendar.
Rather than the normal press release, Bonhams have given this Ex-Scuderia Filipinetti car a more befitting video release – to inform potential buyers of the cars remarkable history.
The video itself is honestly one of the coolest and beautifully shot car videos I’ve ever seen (and I don’t say that lightly) – which is only right for a car of this calibre.
From the creative still shots at the beginning backed by a cool Hip-hop instrumental, to the footage of the classic racer tearing up the desolate road and track – accompanied only by the glorious bellow of the 3.3-litre V12 – 275 LM derived type 213 full dry sump competition engine, this video really does have it all.
Being a 1960’s right hand drive Ferrari makes this car rare enough but what also comes with this car is something that money can’t buy – historic racing heritage.
It raced in Le Mans three times consecutively in its career, in 1967 it placed 11th overall and won its class, it also won it at Spa and at Imola.
In 1969 its competition career came to an end after it was disqualified from Le Mans, as it came in too early for an oil refill.
Then in the 70’s and 80’s the car ended up in the U.S. where it went through the hands of several collectors until it was involved in a warehouse fire, causing damage to the exterior of the car but the chassis was untouched. After finding several more owners, the car was then sent to Modena for a complete overhaul and the work that was carried out was given the Ferrari Classiche Certification.
While the car has seen some updates it has retained many of its original features – these include a fully revised interior, lightweight 590A competition chassis, ultra thin Scagleitti Berlinetta body work, a limited slip transaxle, competition wire wheels and long distance alloy fuel tanks.
Enjoy the video…
