Top Gear have released the first official picture from their upcoming Patagonia Special. Every year the TV series produces a ‘Christmas special’, even though last years special wasn’t aired until March 2014. However this years edition will apparently be broadcast at roughly the right time of year.
According to the Top Gear press team “Jeremy, Richard and James will take a Porsche 928, Lotus Esprit and Ford Mustang through their most gruelling challenge to date: a 1600-mile trek through Patagonia to the southernmost city in the world, in order to stage an epic game of car football against Argentina.”
“There will be swamps, deserts, forests, beaches, and ski slopes for the three V8 sports cars to suffer. There will also be broken bones, mechanical calamities and even some cows. Plus, a climax that wasn’t really on the cards.”
As of yet the official broadcast date and time hasn’t been released but I’ll be sure to post them as soon as I know more.
Fans of the show will also be excited to hear that the team are currently in Canada filming new episodes for next years series.
The team are apparently shooting a segment featuring the Hennessy VelociRaptor, a giant luxury SUV costing approximately $150,000 USD) and is produced by Texas custom builder John Hennessy.
The modified SUV is based on the Ford F150 Raptor crew-cab pickup truck, though offers a supercharged version of the 6.2Litre 411 bhp Ford V8 that comes as standard in the F150.
Specific details of the shoot are scarce, though fan forums have reported that some filming was done in Vancouver, as well the resort town of Whistler, north of the city.
