For readers who have been following our posts for a while, you may remember back in 2014 we posted about Apex: The Story of the Hypercar. For those who are unfamiliar with this, The Story of the Hypercar is a film that was put together by the people of /DRIVE.
The documentary film is an exploration piece into what drives car manufacturers to continually push the boundaries of what is possible in the realms of the automotive sector in terms of speed, luxury and performance. Apex kicks things off by asking “What is a Hypercar?”
With the emergence of new technologies such as hybrid power-trains and the continual development of lightweight materials, a new chapter has been opened in the automotive industry and this film dives head first into this subject.
This story was filmed over the course of a three year period and features beautifully shot cinematography from around the world, showcasing the world’s fastest hypercars in all their glory. It gives a behind the scenes look from some of the best and most innovative car companies in the world, starting in the design studios and R&D labs where these “fighter jets of the street” are created, before heading to a perilous racetrack in Germany where drivers can reach dizzying new heights of speed and performance.
The juxtaposition of ideas from the various manufacturers about what makes a great car, is thought provoking to say the least. And with contributions from the likes of Chris Harris, Alex Roy, Mike Spinelli, Dan Neil and Travis Okulski, plus the input from the manufacturers themselves, this film is a must see for anyone who has petrol coursing through their veins.
Cars featured in the film include the Ferrari F40, Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 918, McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Pagani Huayra and the Koenigsegg One:1.
